Europe's
Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) has launched seven new projects, with a
total budget of more than 237 million euros, aimed at accelerating the
development of safer and more effective drugs.
And the meaning
is … to boost drug development! It is serious! A couple moments are very
interesting in this connection:
1. 237 million is a huge amount but Big
Pharma has much more. Money is not a critical resource for new drug development
by Big Pharma.
2. The projects will be controlled by
Big Pharma – no one clever enough small agents (university or small company
with good ideas) will disclose the ideas – once again, - if they are clever
enough!
Therefore this
initiative is worthless in terms of “boosting drug development”. But it is
definitively perfect to boost European bureaucracy. And the whole initiative is
a nice proof that Big Pharma is in a crisis and the modern
paradigm is useless.
